🏰The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is one of Scotland’s most spectacular and iconic annual events. Held every August, it features music, choreographed marching, and ceremonial performances from military bands from around the world, all accompanied by a dazzling light show against the dramatic backdrop of Edinburgh Castle.
🥁 If you’re not familiar with the name, “Tattoo” in this context does not have anything to do with permanent inked body art—instead, it comes from the 17th-century Dutch phrase “doe den tap toe” which translates to “turn off the tap”, a signal played by military drummers or trumpeters to tell soldiers in nearby taverns that it was time to return to their barracks for the night.
🎟If you are going to be in Edinburgh this August, I highly recommend booking your tickets for the Tattoo in advance! It’s a very popular event and you don’t want to miss out on your chance to experience it. When my friend and I visited Edinburgh we didn’t even know it was happening, and we lucked out and were able to score same-day tickets when we learned about it, but you don’t want to rely on that luck! This year the Tattoo goes from August 1st to August 23rd.
🏴 Comment the word “TOUR” down below & I’ll send you a link to a day trip tour to the Scottish Highlands with an included ticket to the Military Tattoo!!
